vr/co:
Klaus, what are you expecting in general from the Revolting workshop? I mean .. personally?

Klaus-:
Uuh .. eh .. this will be an amazing experience to come together so immidiately with 12 artists from a lot of countries .. but i think ..

vr/co:
what? are there any doubts?

Klaus-:
no i only think about the normal everyday life of an artist. the kind of artist who works with media or online, you know? A lot of my current experiences come from the feeling of distance and isolation instead of increasing communication especially for art on the internet.

vr/co:
and what are your consequences now concerning the virtual revolutions?

Klaus-:
mainly i hope that we all together find out some new basic definitions for the sense of what we are doing. You know, particulary virtual culture in its possible connectivity to solid culture is not in a good state, currently!

vr/co:
more concrete please

Klaus-:
more concrete! e-mail spamming, pornography, technological overkill of plug-Ins and special features, hot air discussions of hot air brained people, security risks, missing interest of the online audience, low participation in communication and so on and on... i've got a friend who didn't touch his computer for 3 months, although he use to work normally on an online art project. He was and is still scared about the psychological implications from being so active in the field of so called virtual culture.

vr/co:

This all sounds very negative, isn't there any way out?

Klaus-:
Yes it will come anyway, with us or without us. Technology and its results to our life are in a rapid flow. It will change everything for sure. It will form out new forms of communication, even it will form a new human psyche! It will bring new forms of addictions. I think it is already there the developement to something different, but currently we see only the phenomens. One for example: the poor german man who have spend only in one month £ 21,000 for these sex-phonelines just for getting the necessary attention.

vr/co:
hm..

Klaus-:
In general means Revolting a big chance for me. Two things come together in my case. First the possibilities which are involved when 13 different artists with different as well as common backgrounds and approaches work together und influence each other. And second is the area since years my very personal source of artistic inspiration. You see i live in Bielefeld, Germany but so often i can i come to Greater Manchester. I am even looking for possibilities to stay and work there for an extended time period...

vr/co:
..and eh, what does that mean for Revolting? How will you fit the things together?

Klaus-:
oh, i've read something nice on the website of 'revolting temporary medialab'. They talked about cooperations between local artists and the various groups of international guests. that sounds good to me and anyway i am very curious about revolting medialab, the discussions and the public contacts.

vr/co:
Klaus, in the end .. do you have an idea or concept which includes your approach and could be one suggestion for a collaborative working process?

Klaus-:
ja, there is indeed an idea. Last year i had a discussion with a friend about the physiological effects of a heatwave. while listening to Marilyn Monroe's Heatwave. Since that time i have often thought about this phenomen. I like to play with structures and processes but not so much in a figurative sense. more in a sociological sense. And so i dream about to design with common power a virtual heatwave practically via Internet on different sites and real space events. Main theme would be: how to increase heat in continous steps. This could range the physical sense of heat well as the symbolic or metaphoric meanings. I would like it profiled as a research project, where different aspects of virtual heat will be examined. It could ..

vr/co:
eh .. yeah go on ..

Klaus-:
it could .. you see we've got the big heat catastrophes, we've got El Niño. And we have this so called technological revolution, we have dramatic changes in the societies of east and west. We have these massive increases and crashes on international money markets. We have companies which come from yesterday to today from zero to priceless .. all this and more is for me a thought's background for the work on movement and speed = heat .. well i'm just imagining .. it's in work .. I am really looking forward to REVOLTING.

vr/co:
thank you Klaus, for this profile of your expectations.
see you then and have a nice flight
